PBBY-Alcala Prize: Jennelyn Joy Duran

Awarded at the 39th National Children’s Book Day celebration on July 19, 2022.

The 2022 PBBY-Alcala Prize was awarded to Jennelyn Joy Duran, an illustrator and graphic designer from Quezon City. She won for her illustrations based on Dulce Maria V. Deriada’s 2022 PBBY-Salanga Grand Prize-winning story, A Girl Named Villea.

Duran always had a passion for art—be it drawing, painting, illustrating, or designing. She started freelancing in 2018 and has been in the creative industry ever since. She has illustrated a number of storybooks for children including May Bago Akong Kaibigan; Nag-iisang Buwan; Sakay na, Bubwit; and God Our Father, Are You Divorcing Me Too? This is Duran’s first PBBY-Alcala Prize.
