Tin Javier Wins 2025 PBBY-Alcala Grand Prize

The Philippine Board on Books for Young People (PBBY) awards this year’s PBBY-Alcala Grand Prize to Christina “Tin” Javier, a paper collage and digital artist from Cavite. Javier’s illustrations are based on this year’s PBBY-Salanga Grand Prize winner, Three Thimbles by Patricia Marie Grace S. Gomez.

Javier has been fusing her art with her advocacies for climate change, Filipino culture and heritage, and social awareness of indigenous peoples. Among the books she has illustrated are Pamilya Papel, Planting Trees of Hope, and several titles featuring Filipino culture and folklore, such as Once Upon the Sun and Sea and the Juan Pusong series. In 2021, she was awarded the PBBY-Alcala Grand Prize and was featured in the Children's Spectator Exhibit at the 2022 Bologna Children's Book Fair. She is a member of Ang Ilustrador ng Kabataan (Ang INK).

PBBY also recognizes Honorable Mention awardee Gervin Angelo A. Andres, a graphic designer and illustrator from Caloocan City. He is also a member of Ang INK. He received this recognition in the PBBY-Alcala Prize for both 2023 and 2024.

The winners will be awarded at the 42nd National Children’s Book Day ceremonies on July 15, 2025.
