Some people say that “money talks.” We agree! Our coins and bills tell us a lot about what is special about our country and people. In this book we give you the bottom line on how money was invented, how it came to our shores, how it’s made, and why it looks the way it does. Hang on, as we SHOW YOU THE MONEY—and get to know who and what’s in your wallet.

“A fun way to learn about history!”—BPI Foundation

“This book reminds us that our economy has a story. That money is not just currency, it carries with it meaning, identity, and our shared experience.”
—Xiao Chua, public historian

Ilang tsinelas ang kailangan para masaya ang samahan? Halina’t magbasa at magbilang!

Pitong Tsinelas is a simple story of coming together despite our differences. Though its board book format is meant for toddlers, its story of inclusivity and acceptance will resonate with any child or parent from all walks of life. It’s never too early to introduce relevant societal issues. After all, it takes a village to raise a child.

This board book was developed in collaboration with the Save The Children Philippines under its First Read program. It is designed to help kids from 0 to 4 years old learn how to count while introducing the concept of inclusivity.

A bilingual paperback edition of Pitong Tsinelas is available from Tahanan Books for Young Readers.

From 218 nominated titles and a shortlisted 29 finalists, 3 titles emerged as winners. The NCBA is a biennial event that honors the best published books for children and young adults published in the previous two years. A maximum of ten titles may be included in the Best Reads list.

The awards aim to encourage parents and caregivers to spend more time reading with their children while recommending the best published works.

The NCBA is co-administered by NBDB with PBBY. The PBBY is a private, nonstock, nonprofit organization committed to the development of children’s literature in the Philippines.

The NCBA is judged by a panel of award-winning children’s book authors, illustrators, and scholars. The esteemed judges are Dr. Christine Bellen-Ang, Dr. Rebecca Anoñuevo, Ms Dolores Carungui, Dr. Lina De Rivera, and Mr. Russell Molina.

This year, the NBDB and PBBY accepted nominations of books published in 2018 and 2019.

The awarding ceremony was held in July 2021 during the National Children’s Book Day celebration.
